Taking this workshop was the best decision I have ever made with regards to learning the crucial elements of a construction style that I have been studying via books and DVD for twenty years. Visualize as much as you like, but, nothing can compare to an up close, hands on experience for learning and building total confidence. Also, the co-operative spirit and enthusiasm of like minded students working together is a real charge of positive energy.
The cost of this program is trivial compared to the expensive mistakes I would have made if left to my own devices and outdated information. Andrew Morrison will honestly help you make up your mind about SB Construction one way or another. What more could you ask?

Andrew was a brilliant teacher, a very personal teacher, who made everyone feel that their role mattered and their questions had value. He is a great human being, and is clearly doing what he loves and knows best. It was simply a brilliant week, one which brought out the best in all of us. We left excited to get home and begin our own straw bale projects.

I wholeheartedly believe that Andrew’s course was the best I could have asked for amongst all the alternatives I was presented with in straw bale construction practices. His knowledge is extensive, precise and up to date. He’s great at making things clear even for those who may have very little experience in construction in general. Above all, his genuine personality is what makes the whole experience so enjoyable. He’s the first to look out for you in making sure you make the right choices, and the last to limit you in your desire to want to create something that you can call yours. To top it off, his cheerful demeanor and great sense of humor make the whole experience feel like a holiday with your good buddies.

I am preparing to participate in my fourth Strawbale workshop which I am just as excited about as the first one. Many people have asked me why I am doing so many of these. My experience in the workshops has given me a wonderful sense of camaraderie, team work, community spirit and interest. I have seen many new friendships established. It has also given me a great deal of hope for our dear planet. The workshops are a tremendous example of people working together for a common cause that has so many wide spread and lasting benefits.
Andrew is a dynamic individual with so many talents even beyond the patience, experience and know-how to run these workshops. I have followed the progress of this young man and his work for a number of years and I can’t say enough about him and his contribution.
If you have any reservations set them aside, you will learn more than you can imagine and have a great time doing it. These workshops are worth every penny, every minute and then some.
Sincerely, Gretchen (Strawpenter Junkie)

Andrew, you’re welcome back here anytime. I think I can say that we Aussies enjoyed the workshop more than you! I for one would do another workshop with you at the drop of a hat. A workshop with you is lots of fun and lots of information all rolled into one. Thanks for a great week!

Brian and I just finished our straw bale shop! We had fun but am glad we practiced on the shop and not the house. Not a lot of huge mistakes, just a few costly ones. It would have been a disaster if we hadn’t participated in your workshop a few years prior to our build. The pictures I took during the class were put into a book and we referenced them almost every day. Thanks again!

The Lameroo course in South Australia was fantastic , the training was exceptional and you could not ask for a better teacher than Andrew. The friendships created amongst everyone will be remembered for life. The host gave five star breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. For anyone wanting to host a workshop I would highly recommend it as it is a way to have your home baled and rendered (plastered) in 7 days and also meet new interesting people who are like minded with straw bale construction. The heart and soul from all those helping to build the home in the workshop puts a nice loving feeling to the home.

What a great workshop and valuable experience. It was so much fun to work and get along so well with a bunch of folks that were mere strangers at the onset: Andrew you certainly have a knack for all facets of your vocation!

Thanks again for the most rewarding week of straw,’mud’ and good times. Your lighthearted instruction and ability to reach and interact with everyone at their own level is a gift that is much appreciated.
Also, thanks for the little reminder around the camp fire one night – To fearlessly live to your full potential – I think that you helped many achieve one more step in this direction over the past week.

Andrew is a great teacher who has a rare balance of patience, expertise, the ability to explain things to many different people, a solid grasp of group dynamics, and a fun, relaxed demeanor. As a college professor myself, I understand how rare it is to find all of these qualities in one person. Andrew’s mastery of all these aspects makes him an affective and engaging teacher and the class a total success.

Thank you for teaching such an inspiring workshop. I had the best time while in Montana, learning about straw bale construction. You have instilled a new confidence in me to pursue the construction of my own straw bale home. Your “hands-on” (and “hands-off”) teaching approach was well received and allowed everyone to learn so much more. A good time was had by all.

I think that if anyone is serious about building a Straw Bale house, the 7 day hands on building course is NOT an option, it’s a MUST. I feel very confident about my upcoming project now. Great course! Not only a lot of fun but also a great learning experience in the best of settings. The evening jocularity, stories and new friendships have left me with some long and strong memories. Thank you for all that.

Thanks so much for the tips on building with straw bales, the great healthy meals, and the generosity that your family offered. The workshop was a blast and I left there feeling extremely fulfilled with not only the building process with straw, but also the relationships that were made.
I feel very excited and confident about building our straw bale home in the near future. Again, thank you to you and your family for the learning experience and the great times had by all.

Thank you for offering this one-of-a-kind learning experience, it was truly worth our while to take the time for the workshop. There is no doubt we are now more confident to take on much of the straw bale building process ourselves and potentially save money in labor and costly mistakes with the knowledge we gained.

Andrew, the workshop paid for itself in the first day. The amount of design information and overall detail you presented on day one was amazing and everything else, and there was a lot, was bonus. Thanks for a great week.

Andrew Morrison is an engaging and articulate instructor and his week long workshop provided plenty of opportunity to practice most aspects of straw bale construction from installing toe-ups, tying and shaping bales to attaching the wire mesh and plastering and everything in between. By the end of the workshop I felt much more confident about moving forward with my own straw bale building project. The time and money spent was well worth it! Getting to know and work with others from many parts of North America was an added bonus.

Andrew’s workshop was an exceptional experience! As a girl who had done a ton of reading about building technique options, I felt that I acquired a more pragmatic understanding of how a build comes together, a comprehensive knowledge base of the workability of materials, and what common obstacles are and methods to manage them. It is an excellent combination of theory and hands on construction. The atmosphere is motivating and well paced. It is well suited for the experienced builder who would like to explore the world of bale building to someone just beginning to consider the viability of the option. It has added immense depth to my own planning and the potential in my building process.

I know we both learned a lot. You really are a good teacher and you bring so much to the teaching of the techniques just because of the person you are. I do miss the whole feeling of being at your home site and having you come in for breakfast starting our day with humor and kind ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on opportunity to learn more about building with straw bales from someone who has straw bale construction experience and up-to-date industry knowledge. I definitely gained a lot more confidence and knowledge about the straw bale building process than I could have from books only and now feel prepared to embark on my own straw bale building projects.

Many thanks to Andrew & his extended family for making the May 2008 workshop such a great all round experience. Tom & I had read a number of books on straw bale building and plastering which left us with lingering questions. Andrew’s instruction was insightful and compelling. It more than met our expectations. Andrew put it all into perspective for us and left us with a great enthusiasm to get started! Andrew is a great resource & nothing can compare to the hands on experience we shared with everyone in the group. Andrew proved to be not only a great instructor with a sense of humor through it all but a person with a great compassion for helping others. The friendships formed with Andrew, his family and the entire group were invaluable to the point that we didn’t want to leave and break up the group. May our lives touch in the future.

The workshop was a brilliant mix of theoretical and practical training. We were able to practically go through the whole straw bale building process and I feel confident with managing my own straw bale building project in the future. Andrew was an excellent teacher and a mine of building knowledge and tips.

What a week. I get the feeling that for most of us, what we came away with goes well beyond the proper technique for building straw bale homes. The fact of the matter is that $800 is not much money to come away with more life lessons. For me it was a confidence builder and it helped me gain clarity about what I want for my own project.

Andrew is a great person – all of the fun and joking aside (and there was plenty of that!), he really has an incredible gift for getting people to come together to work and learn. It is rare to find people who have been so fortunate in life as to create a career path for themselves that is so meaningful for themselves and others – you are both very lucky. I will certainly stay in touch with you guys, and who knows, I may be hosting a workshop in the future myself!
