Getting to teach a straw bale workshop for the hosts, Geoff and Sarah on their beautiful homestead outside of Perth is going to be a real treat. Straw bale construction continues to grow in popularity in Australia and offering two workshops on this magical continent seems only fitting. Here is a description in the hosts own words…
After a day of Andrew’s workshop in South Australia, April 2011 we knew we wanted to host one. We are farming biologically in Western Australia’s wheat belt about an hour and half north east of Perth. It is a beautiful place with lots of remnant bushland and wildlife including echnidas, frogs, kangaroos and emus. We also have numerous species of birds including migratory ones in this area.
Our house is timber framed straw bale construction fashioned after an Australian Outback Homestead with high ceilings, a large verandah, and tin roof. We’ll incorporate a passive solar design as well in order to take advantage of nature’s heating and cooling cycles.
At the moment we are about to pour the rest of the slab, Sarah will be baling the rest of the straw required for construction (nice looking bales) while we continue the journey of owner buiding.
Look forward to sharing our farm with you!
Regards,
Geoff and Sarah
The cost to attend this workshop is $800 which includes all instruction, camping spot, use of bathing facilities, free Straw Bale DVD, and all food during the workshop. A $200 non refundable deposit secures your spot at the workshop.
