I’m excited to announce that I will be teaching a workshop in Missouri for the first time. I spent some time in Missouri during college, but have not been back there since. I’m really looking forward to spending some time in this beautiful part of the country. Here’s what the host has to say about the location and the project.
Our straw bale workshop is located in Southwest Missouri in a town called Eldorado Springs, nicknamed the “Gold City”, in the beautiful rolling hills on the Sac River. Our property is a 200 acre ranch/farm that has about 150 acres of pasture and 50 acres of timber. We are only about 8 miles away from Stockton Lake, one of the largest recreational lakes in Missouri, which provides all of the usual fishing, hiking, boating and swimming activities you would expect to find on a lake with 269 miles of shoreline. Bring your own canoe or use one of the two that we have to float down the Sac river for an hour or two (depending on current flow) from Caplinger Mills right to our back door. It is a very popular attraction for locals and visitors alike.
We are in the middle of building a wellness retreat for people to come and learn about using food as their medicine. Along with the wellness center, we are building a large 3,000 square foot greenhouse that will house an Aquaponic growing area that will raise Tilapia fish as well as many different vegetables and fruits. At our ranch we also raise dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, and chickens. The menu for the week will include your choice of meat or vegetarian meals along with our fresh farm foods.

The ranch has walking trails down to the river and we have plenty of area for tents, campers & RV’s. We will provide water for campers and RV’s and will also have electric hookups for up to 4 RV’s and campers. We will have large bonfires each night for anyone wishing to participate. Bring your guitar or any other instrument and your voice for fun evenings around the fire. Weather permitting, the stars and Milky Way will put on a show to remember.
We are so happy to have all of you come and help us create this beautiful home for our family and to further the vision of the wellness center we hold in our hearts. We look forward to meeting all of you in April. The straw bale house we are building is for our son Carl, our daughter-in-law Lindsay and their family. It is going to be a 1,300 square foot ranch house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It will have a timber frame and metal roof.
The cost to attend this workshop is $800 which includes all instruction, camping spot, use of bathing facilities, free Straw Bale DVD, and all food during the workshop. A $200 non refundable deposit secures your spot at the workshop.
