This 14 DAY FOUNDATION TO PLASTER WORKSHOP will take place on the same property where I held at least 5 workshops several years ago.  It will be set on 90 acres in the beautiful Siskiyou Mountain Range just 15 minutes outside of historic Jacksonville, OR and 30-45 minutes from Medford and Ashland.  This stunning property, which we used to live on, has been turned into a spiritual retreat center using the multiple straw bale cabins we built in previous workshops, which are now finished and look beautiful!

In this 2 week workshop I will be cover ALL aspects of straw bale building, from laying out and pouring a concrete slab foundation, to framing the entire structure (including the roof), to baling, electrical & plumbing systems and finally to applying at least the scratch coat of plaster.  The cottage we will build is the perfect size for this workshop format. With roughly 300 SF, it will allow us to cover all of the processes in full during the 14 days.

If you have been looking for a class in which to learn how to build a house from the ground up, this is a rare chance to be a part of the build, hands-on.  Previous building experience is not necessary and there will be teaching time incorporated to cover the various processes involved in the build.   This class is also appropriate for those with conventional building experience but no experience in straw bale construction.

Should you choose to extend your stay beyond the workshop dates, the Southern Oregon area is rich with activities for both country and city lovers.  Between Ashland, Jacksonville, and Medford there is a nearly endless list of activities that one can take part in.  The property itself has several ponds, hundreds of acres for hiking behind it, horses on the premise for potential riding, a Northern Cheyenne prayer sweat lodge, straw bale sauna, and several straw bale cabins to inspire you.

Be sure to bring your straw bale plans with you if you have some, and we will take some time to review what you have in mind. This is a great way to expand the teachings of the workshop from hands-on to “real world implications” for your own project. Getting feedback from the group, and from Andrew as well, is a great way to double check your ideas and hopes as they relate to your house.

The cost to attend this 2 week Foundation to Plaster workshop is $1,600 which includes all instruction, camping spot, use of bathing facilities, free Straw Bale DVD, and all food during the workshop.  A $400 non refundable deposit secures your spot at the workshop.
