Lameroo, Australia
Lameroo, South Australia: 3/28-4/3, ’11
(COMPLETED)
Finally, I will be able to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling to Australia! I am thrilled that we have found such a wonderful family to host this workshop. This should be a very special workshop opportunity and I’m counting down the days until I head down there. Here is some information on the house we will be baling and the surrounding area in the hosts’ own words…
We are excited to be hosting Andrew Morrison’s Australian workshop and extend the invitation to everyone and anyone interested in learning straw bale building from a professional. The workshop will be our 4 bedroom home including a large open plan with a cathedral ceiling area. Our strawbale home is a post and beam construction and has been designed to gain passive solar heating/cooling.
Tasty, organic meals will be supplied by us and/or caterers. Come and enjoy some peace and quiet for a week in one of the most beautiful parts of the world! There are lots of stars at night and this should be a great time of the year to visit with the weather being not too hot nor not too cold!
Our region is accessed the minute you drive from Victoria into South Australia. From Adelaide, we are located approximately 2 hours drive from the capital city. Our district comprises nearly 6000 square kilometres, predominantly made up of farming and horticulture within a rural Mallee setting.
In this land of sunshine, boundless skies, and rich character you’ll discover a whole new world. It’s not a world you can experience just driving through; it’s a world you need to stop and enjoy. In this vastness, the richness is in the smallest details such as the unique wildflowers and the rare Mallee Fowl.
The Mallee seems to have the fluffiest clouds and on a clear night there’s a trillion stars sprinkled across the sky. The 100% genuine hospitality of our people and community are as Aussie as you will get! We believe the Mallee is a wonderful region and there’s nothing like it anywhere in the world. Come and experience it for yourself!
The nearest towns are Karoonda 30km to the west and Lameroo 40km to the east. Both towns have good amenities – grocery shops, fuel, etc.
We have heaps of room for camping: caravans, tents, buses, etc. There will be power and toilet/bathroom facilities supplies for everyone. There’s plenty of room for kids to run around, ride bicycles, etc.
We are really excited to have our project springing into action and we are looking forward to meeting new people with an interest in straw bale building and learning together from Andrew.
