(FOR INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT IS COVERED IN EACH & EVERY WORKSHOP, CLICK HERE)

I am very excited about running this workshop in my home town!  I have been to the job site and it sits in a beautiful area with an amazing view of the mountains.  The hosts couldn’t be kinder or more hospitable and they are really looking forward to being hosts to the workshop.  We will be baling quite a large home on this project and this is a great opportunity to see larger home project come together.   This area has so much to offer (lakes, hiking, Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta, Shakespeare Festival, fine cuisine, art, culture, etc…) that I hope that you’ll be able to stay an extra week to see the area either before or after the workshop.

Here is a description of the workshop in the hosts’ own words:

We are so excited to host one on Andrew’s informative and fun straw bale workshops!  Come and join us put up the walls and learn all about this sustainable construction.

Our workshop will take place 20 miles east of Ashland, OR in the “Greensprings” area (on Hwy 66 between Ashland and Klamath Falls).  The nearest airport is in Medford, OR which is about an hour from the work shop site.  Car rentals are available at the airport. The site sits on 16 wooded acres at about 4000 ft. elevation offering beautiful views of Soda Mountain ridge.  On the property there is an older house that our family lives in and several outbuildings.  The building project is a four bedroom two story 2300 sq. ft. house with a garage and wrap around deck.

The property is surrounded by the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument.  This is an amazing natural resource in our backyard which is the crossroads of the Cascade, Klamath, and Siskiyou eco-regions. It boasts biological diversity, habitat conservation, and recreational opportunities.  If you haven’t explored in the monument it is a must!

During the summer Ashland is alive with a flurry of fun activities.  It is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Lithia Park, and over 100 restaurants!  It is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts.  In the surrounding area there are a number of lakes and rivers that offer boating opportunities, several hiking trails (including the Pacific Crest Trail), and world class mountain biking trails.

Just down the road there are two great recreational lakes for boating, fishing and swimming.  Hyatt Lake is a small (no wake) lake which has great fishing, canoeing, and camping.  Howard Prairie Lake is a large lake with good wind for sailing and supports all the fun summer activities (www.hplake.com).

Pack your tent and sleeping bag! There is ample room for camping on the property and August is the best month for meteorite viewing.  The night sky is unbelievable up here with no city lights impeding the great beyond.

If camping on the property and waking up to the sun shining in your tent isn’t for you, there are options.  Two miles up the road is the Greensprings Inn which has a full service restaurant (great food), up-scale cabins, and lodge rooms for rent (www.greenspringsinn.com).  Just down the road 3 miles is the Pinehurst Inn which is a bed and breakfast (541-488-1002).

We will offer delicious fresh cooked cuisine for the carnivores and herbivores alike. We use only the freshest locally grown and organic food wherever possible. The weather in august is typically warm (80 deg.) during the day and cools off at night (60 deg.).  There is a wonderful fire pit on site, and we hope to have campfires for after work fun.  Please bring instruments to relax and wind down during the evenings!

We look forward to seeing you all at our straw bale workshop!
